Have you ever tried to build a small chicken coop? If you are contemplating this but don’t know where to start, you are exactly where I was a couple of months ago.

I was amazed at the cost of buying a coop, so I realised the only way this was going to happen was if I build one. The problem is that the only plans I could find were all rather complex or not adaptable to different sizes and shapes for different spaces. So I set out on my own and adopted the trial and error approach. What a mistake, the entire process ended up costing me almost the same as it would have, had I bought one! It also took about 10 years off my life because of frustration and agitation.

Since I have become convinced that a self sufficient lifestyle is they way to go in the future, I decided to search further until I find a simple design which will show a dummy like me, step by step, how to build a small chicken coop. I found a fantastic guide if you wanted to build a shed, but a chicken coop is not simply a shed. I am so glad I kept searching! I stumbled upon this wonderful little e-book which had 50 different designs and was easy as pie to understand.

What’s more, it comes with plenty of free stuff that I was going to have to buy any way. It has a guide about raising chickens, caring for them in hot, or cold climates and even a guide on the different breeds of chickens. If I had found these easy designs in the 1st place, it would have made my life a hell of a lot easier. This whole process took me 4 days, where I have been struggling for more than 2 weeks on my own.

If you are hard headed like me and believe you can do it without the designs and step by step instructions, that’s fine too, try it out, perhaps you will have more luck than I did.
